Macross 30 Released in Japan!

So it's Macross's 30th anniversary, right? And these guys Namco-Bandai decided to celebrate the anniversary by releasing a "little" game called Macross 30: The Voice that Connects the Galaxy. The game is advertised as a 3D Flight Action RPG, which is why I'm all over it. I love Macross with a passion and I've always wanted a great flight RPG like that. Put 2 and 2 together and Kyle is a happy man, right? Wrong. It's only being released in Japan.

So far though, it seems like an amazing game. The plot revolves around a pilot for SMS named Leon Sakaki who is shot down on the planet Uroboros after an encounter with an unknown enemy. He meets some cute anime chick named Aisha Blanchett and some weird sh*t ensues after they awaken an equally cute but mysterious girl. Somehow all of the Macross characters from every series get brought into a cross over which allows for the player to fly pretty much every Valkyrie and Variable fighter in Macross history. So yeah, awesome concept for a game right? I mean just LOOK at the trailer!

Macross 30 is available in both a regular and special edition, the latter including a TON of prints, an artbook and some other neat trinkets that will make any Macross fan smile. The limited edition is available online for between $150 and $200 USD and WILL work on a North American PS3, unfortunately it's all in Japanese which will make it hard to follow for all us 'Muricans. Oh well. I might pick up a copy at some point in the future. What would allow me to die a happy man would be an English release, but with Harmony Gold owning all the rights to Macross in the US and the fact that there hasn't been a proper dubbed version of Macross in any form since 1995 it seems we're SOL.

You can get a pure, Japanese copy of the limited edition here at play-asia.com:
