Okay, so a little something I like to do is check out how the latest
anime showings have done over in the Japan from time to time. Here in
the US we never get theatrical releases of the movies from our favorite
anime shows, though we do get the amazing stuff from Ghibli thanks to
Disney. So, with that, here's how things have been fairing so far over
in the Japanese box office.
If you're not familiar with
the Japanese movie industry, well...these numbers could seem really
strange and tiny compared to things in the US or Europe. To understand
some of it, think of a lot of these releases as small limited types that
sometimes only last 2-3 weeks. Sometimes, they only go for one weekend
and then show up later again. With anime it's even more crazy like this,
so only the super popular stuff tends to get a wide release in Japanese
theaters.
(*Note: I'm only including anime that originated in Japan for
this and not the broader scope of the word that includes Western
animation as well. Some of these have just been released too.)
