[Japan] Zettai Ryoiki, The World's First Thigh-High Sock Store Opening Soon in Akihabara

Earlier today, the website Radio Kaikan, reported that store will be opening on February 8th in the Japanese geek mecca, Akihabara. Zettai Ryoiki, literally meaning "absolute territory", will carry a wide selection of thigh-high socks, accessories and other goods.

The style has been highly popularized in manga, anime and maid cafes over the years and the shop owners noticed a distinct lack of stores that were selling such items. So, they're making the attempt to fill that niche with cosplayers, maid cafe workers and fans alike.

Honestly, I'm surprised a store like this didn't already exist in Akihabara, you'd think one would. Not only that, but how is there not a store anywhere on the planet dedicated to this either? Seems very strange, but who am I to argue with the shop owners claims? It's still surprising though...

When the store opens in just a couple of weeks, they plan to have over 100 different styles in stock and adding as time goes on. For those curious, their prices are definitely pretty low as well, starting at 300 yen (about $3 US) per leg and going up from there.

Definitely looks like they have many of the bases covered with a wide variety of styles and colors, at least by look of the pictures above and below. It'll be interesting to see how well they do and what other styles they add, hopefully once they open I'll be able to track down some more pictures and info as well!

More pics after the jump!
