Well, the earlier news about a new anime series for YuruYuri might have been jumping the gun a little. Just today the official YuruYuri website announced that the new project would in fact be an OVA and not a full third season. However, unlike many OVA's they are going to be going with a theatrical release schedule for the episodes sometime later this year.
Right now there's not much more information to be had outside of that announcement. That said, there is a stage event coming up on the 22nd at Anime Japan 2014. The four main voice cast of the anime: Shiori Mikami (Akari Akaza), Yuka Otsubo (Kyoko Toshinou), Minami Tsuda (Yui Funami), and Rumi Ohkubo (Chinatsu Yoshikawa) will be there for the event and it's possible that we learn more about this OVA project then.
So, while it may dash the hopes and expectations from many fans out there, at least it's something and can't really complain about that. Maybe a third season will still happen after the OVA run still.
