[Haunts] The Fear at Navy Pier's Zombie Containment Begins to Resurface after Sinking

Well, this is news that I never like sharing, and as a life long haunter, it's truly heartbreaking. This past Halloween, Zombie Containment at Chicago's The Fear at Navy Pier suffered a catastrophic event. The barge that the haunt was situated on, sunk. The 10 shipping containers that the haunt were made up of sinking into Lake Michigan along with the hundreds of thousands of dollars in props and countless hours of blood and sweat.

High winds and waves doomed the haunt last Friday and since then, the Coast Guard and salvage teams have been hard at work to bring up as much of the haunt as they can. So far only a handful of the zombie props have been brought up out of the 50 that were inside. Who knows how much damage was done to the sets and everything else, but by the looks of things? It's not pretty...

Some of the containers definitely look damaged and from the looks of them, not much is left inside either. How much they can get up from the bottom is a mystery right now. Definitely a heartbreaking scene to take in and all us here are pulling for them.

Here's a couple more photos of the recovery efforts from the Coast Guard and others. While sad, at least they were able to have a little fun with the whole thing. As Jimmy Buffet said "If we couldn't laugh, we'd all go insane".

Whether it's a home haunt or something on the professional level, it's never fun to hear these kinds of stories and I'm just glad that no one was injured in the incident. Here's to hoping that they can rebuild for the 2015 season and fingers crossed for some better weather!
