[Haunted Attractions]/Pittsburgh

So, we've traveled (and will be traveling) to haunts all across the US, or at least as far as we can get in a short season. We've hit up some heavy hitters that are out there this year, Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, The Haunt at Kings Dominion and Kennywood's Phantom Fright nights. (You can view those reviews here)

Now it's our turn to switch gears and move to some of the independent haunts that are out there. While we will be traveling to such haunts as Waverly Hills: Scare-A-Torium, The USS Nightmare and The Dent Schoolhouse...we can't forget the folks in our backyard here in Pittsburgh.

Namely, The ScareHouse  and 100 Acres Manor.

While we haven't been to either this year, we have been in the past and as recently as last year in the case of 100 Acre Manor. Personally, I can vouch that both of these attractions are top notch and definitely worth the trip out if you're in the Pittsburgh area.

Both of these have been considered to be amongst the best in the entire US and really shouldn't be missed. So, while it may not be possible to get out to such places as SE Virginia to hit up Busch Gardens or Kings Dominion and you may be lured in by Kennywood but you really should check out these local guys. They put so much of themselves into their haunts that you really can't pass them up.

The ScareHouse is open from 7-10pm on October 24, 25, 28, 30, 31 and November 1. They're open from 7-11pm on October 26 and 27th and November 2nd and 3rd as well!

Hundred Acres Manor is open 7-10pm on October 22, 23, 24, 25, 28 and November 1. They're open from 7-11:30pm October 26th, 27th and November 2nd and 3rd too!

Yes, this sounds like a PSA for local haunters, and it is. These are the people out there that are putting everything on the line and bringing you top quality entertainment and scares. The fact that they've been mentioned by the Travel Channel, HauntWorld.com and others just shows that they are worth the time and money. That's why the next few reviews you see around here will be from local haunts, the real meat and potatoes of the haunt industry.

Full disclosure: In the past I did spend two seasons working at The ScareHouse in Pittsburgh and while I may have some bias towards them, they are definitely one of the best in the country. The show that they put on is simply amazing.
