[HOS] Busch Gardens Williamsburg Howl-O-Scream 2014 Mega Post

Looks like the folks at Busch Gardens Williamsburg have decided to just unload a ton of information about this year's Howl-O-Scream on us this year. Not nearly as much fanfare as last year, but there's a reason for that. Not much is changing from last year at all and if you read last year's mega post a lot of this will sound very familiar, but there are a few new things. So, since there's just a couple things we don't know about yet, this right here is the mega post!

All of houses and TERROR-tories from last year will be back as well, likely with some improvements to them we hope. While it's nice to see Cut Throat Cove returning, some of the other houses have been around for a very, very long while now. In the case of Bitten and Catacombs, they've been featured since at least 2009 from what I can tell. 5 years is an eternity in the haunt world these days and neither has really been updated either.

However, it's not all entirely the same. The park is teasing that there will be a new show and an all new TERROR-tory, probably in New France, for this year as well. No clue on the show, though I suspect it will be the return of Monster Stomp. A new dining experience in addition to Blood Banquet is also being hinted at as well.

Another thing that I noticed for this year was that they're bringing in the cashless wristband system that has proven to be really popular during their Food & Wine Festival. Definitely a nice touch and should help with things at the restaurants and bars throughout the park during the event. Now if they could just tie in the ID process to it, then it'd be perfect...even though I know why they can't, still nice to think about!

This year's event runs for 18 nights and is open from 6pm-10pm on Fridays and Sundays, 6pm-11pm on Saturdays in October, starting on September 12th thru October 26th. I've already gone about how I think these hours and dates make no sense, so I won't do that again. If you want to read it, check out the earlier post about all that here. We had endless problems with it, as our review from last year pointed out as well.

Tickets this year run the same as the park admission, $72 for a single day and night at the park or you can pay the same amount for the Fall Fun Card and get every day of the event for the same price. Also back this year are the Eerie Insider and Howl-O-Scream All Access tours. They'll set you back $70 and $100 respectively.

Get comfortable, there's a lot of information go through here. So, let's get on with what we know is coming to this year's event. First on the agenda? The houses, all of which we've seen before.

Bitten - Oktoberfest Area

The vamps are back once again and you'll have to navigate their world in order to survive, or maybe not, guess it depends on your mood...and theirs.

Suspicion, darkness and mind-numbing fear surround the “Bitten” house which is set in Eastern Europe in the late 1800s. Full of legends and lore of vampires and the undead that preyed on the innocent, this manor sits by the road upon which all travelers must pass but few return.

13 Your Number's Up - Ireland

For 13 long years, the dark tower was locked away from the world—existing only in the nightmares of those who had dared to experience Howl-O-Scream’s first and most terrifying maze. But now the seal has been broken. The tower is open once more and on the 13th floor, your darkest phobias and fears lurk in the shadows. Are you brave enough to face them or is your number up?

Catacombs - France

Through a ruined cemetery filled with statues lies a tunnel that leads to an underground city. Its history is more terrifying than that of France’s worst revolutions. Deep within these tunnels lie mile after mile of bones—the final resting place for those who are buried here. But all is not as quiet as it appears.

As guests venture forth into the dank, dripping corridors of rat infested remains, the voices of the dead begin to speak, and some have taken shape.

Cut Throat Cove - Festa Italia

Heed the warning: Abandon hope all ye who enter. Cut Throat Cove™ is the haven for bloodthirsty, dangerous rogues – where the scurvy dogs, buccaneers and scoundrels go for shelter. Proceed with caution. Alas, something has gone terribly wrong. Within this macabre market, the pirates have been slaughtered and mutiny is afoot. The way out lies with the buried treasure and the blood-curdling screams you hear just might be your own.

Deadline - Escape from Pompeii

Deep underground, construction of the newest line of the Pompeii Metro was moving smoothly until an ancient pipe was accidentally struck. At first, it seemed like steam. Then the mist became thicker, more sinister. Now the strange gas is leaking quickly, and everyone trapped inside is infected.

The difficult decision was made to cut off all communication to the outside world. The Dead Line is off the grid.

Root of All Evil - Rhinefield

The seeds of evil have been sown. Venture if you dare into a decrepit greenhouse. Experiments here have not gone as planned and evil has taken control.

Botanists, landscapers and staff all poisoned by the very plants they created. In this maze of foliage, you are ripe for the pickings.

Definitely odd that they've not decided to change up anything over last year in this department, but I guess we can only hope that they've done some work on updating them a little. To be perfectly honest, I'm not holding my breath on that one since last year only saw Cut Throat Cove show up due to damage from Super Storm Sandy. Otherwise I'm sure that Fear Fair would still be around.

Last year saw the introduction of one of the best dining experiences that Busch Gardens Williamsburg has put together in a long while. Blood Banquet was easily one of the best things about last year's event. So, it's great to hear that they're bringing it back for this year as well!

Blood Banquet - Rhinefeld

Visit Count Vlad’s hotel and meet a variety of paranormal characters for an all-new interactive dining experience. This one-of-a-kind spooky atmosphere paired with unexpected twists and turns offers guests the chance to sink their teeth into a whole new way of dining. With an eclectic menu, haunting music and an atmosphere to die for, Blood Banquet is otherworldly.

Unknown - Ireland

According to a few sources out there, there will be a second dining experience this year and it will replace last year's Fright Feast.

Not entirely sure if that's true or not yet but until I hear otherwise, I'm gonna run with it and say that there will be something hopefully on par with Blood Banquet.

Blood Banquet was amazingly good last year, and showed just what the park can do if they really put their minds to it. This year I've been hearing that they're going to upgrade the show a little and possibly the menu as well. Will have to stay tuned for that one!

Next up, time to take a look at the TERROR-tories. Interestingly enough, there's a new one being teased a little and if it comes to pass, will be located within New France. I've heard rumor that a few of these will be getting upgrades, mostly that of Demon Street and Ripper Row but one can hope that they all get a little TLC. Hopefully they'll also change up Ports of Skull a little, it wasn't scary at all and just a photo op for kids it seemed like...not exactly fitting.

Demon Street - France

Paris is burning. Can you escape before the city is engulfed in flame? Let the smoldering ruins light your way, but beware, fiery fiends lurk around every corner ready to put you on the coals. The smell of a burning inferno fills the air and rumor has it unsuspecting souls will be roasted on a spit.

Ports of Skull - San Marco

The Jolly Roger has risen over a ship graveyard filled with lost souls doomed to haunt the vessels they once sailed. Chart your course through Cut Throat Cove™ or cozy up to the Pirate Baarrrgh™ for a swill ‘o the grog, but keep a weather eye open or you may find yourself keel-hauled by cut-throat buccaneers.

Ripper Row - England

Things are looking a bit unsettling in England; a murderer is on the loose plucking unsuspecting victims from the city streets to satisfy his grizzly curiosity. No one knows what Jack the Ripper looks like or who he will strike next. Authorities hunt furiously among the crowds in search of the killer nabbing anyone who looks at all suspicious.

Vampire Point - Rhinefeld

Even vampires need a vacation once in a while and Vampire Point™ is the perfect destination for bloodsuckers. Watch your step and your neck or you might end up the main course. Dawn is hours away, your last salvation lies in escaping the vampire village before the inhabitants sink their fangs into you.

Unknown - New France?

New scare zone, probably to be located within the New France section of the park. I haven't been able to fully decipher what they're up to with this one as it could be a few different things. One possibility is bringing back the werewolves from past events, others point more to the current them that's running across all three Howl-O-Scream events. Haven't quite put my finger on that yet though.

Again, hopefully the returning areas get a bit of an upgrade and improved upon. There's a lot that could be done in that department, mostly in the needing more scare actors arena of things and more theming wouldn't hurt at all either.

Fiends and Night Beats will be returning, but one show won't be. Which one? Well, Dig It Up won't be returning and that leaves a void here. The park is going to be announcing a new show for the 2014 event, but just what that is right now is unknown. Though, according to most rumors out there, it looks like it will be the return of Monster Stomp in some form or another.

Fiends

The wacky doctor and his manic nurses are creating the ultimate Fiend, and there’s not a bad seat in the lab.

The voltage is high, and so is the fun as they sing, dance and bring you along on the operation of a lifetime.

Night Beats

Things that go bump in the night sing, dance and transport you on a musical journey.

From the devilish sounds of the roaring '20s to vamping it up with the music of today, this show is filled with dazzling dance numbers, sizzling singers and a barely live band that will leave your heart … beating.

Unknown

Yep, this is the mysterious unknown show and I have a strong feeling it'll be Monster Stomp. Could be wrong on that one, but just going with a gut feeling on that one.

Either way, gonna have to stay tuned to find out just what they have planned!

Nice to see something new coming, even if it is likely that something never should've left in the first place, but that's another matter entirely.

For a long time bars at Howl-O-Scream weren't part of the equation, but after the introduction of the Open CASKet a couple of years ago Busch Gardens never looked back. Last year they launched a total of four bars and they'll all be coming back for this year's event as well!

Demon Drinks - France

On Demon Street, everything is sizzling. Join the club, beat the heat and throw back a cold one.

The Demon Drinks’ DJ and his too-hot-to-handle hosts are happy to serve guests as they fan the flames of fun.

Pirate Baarrrgh - San Marco

Ahoy scallywags, when the gale winds blow through the creaking yardarm, it's time for dead men to tell tall tales at Pirate Baarrrgh.

Grab a swill o’ the grog stolen from Davy Jones’ locker and mingle with the likes of Peg Leg Pete, Billy Bones and Blackbeard.

Open CASKet - Oktoberfest

The dead are alive and so is the fun. Hang around, watch your neck and toss back a specialty brew served by the coolest vampires this side of the Rhine River.

Inoculation Station - Ireland

No appointments are necessary at Inoculation Station. Head over for the shot of a lifetime with your favorite fiends in pink. Get your prescription filled – a test tube shot and photo op are always in stock.

And there ya have it, everything that we know of that's coming to this year's Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. While it's a little disappointing that there isn't much change to the event, here's to hoping that the new additions that have yet to be announced are worthwhile. That and hopefully they do some updating to the other attractions for the event as well!
