[Haunts] Kings Island's Halloween Haunt set to Terrify with New Mazes, Scare-Zones and Shows for 2013!

Well, turns out that the information reported earlier about the new mazes and scare-zones were accurate for this year's Halloween Haunt at Kings Island. Once again, they've got one insane line up that I'm sure will satisfy those who are looking for coasters and haunts in one place. The last time that +Carrie H.C. and I were there was back in 2011 and we both really enjoyed the show they put on, here's to hoping they've continued that streak.

This year's event runs from September 20th thru October 27th and is packed with 11 mazes, 4 scare-zones and 4 shows in addition to all their great rides and coasters. Definitely not a bad way to spend a night during the fall around Cincinnati if you ask me...

In addition to the new mazes and scare-zones they've brought in one helluva show as well that's all new for 2013. One that, well to be honest, shocked me when I read who exactly was behind it. Ed Alonzo. This wasn't there during our visit, but it has to be completely psychotic if reputation is anything to go on.

So, let's get on with the show then shall we? Here's a look at everything new and returning for this year's Halloween Haunt. First up? The newest show to terrify those brave enough...

ED ALONZO’S PYSCHO CIRCUS OF MAGIC & MAYHEN, PART II

The magic and mystery continue as the “Misfit of Magic” Ed Alonzo (of TV’s Saved by the Bell) debuts at Halloween Haunt. Be prepared!

It’s going to be a cold, dark and stormy night!

Definitely sounds like it should be interesting to say the least, but that's not all that they have coming out of the nightmare fuel ether for this year. Let's take a look at the two newest mazes gracing the midways...

Board to Death (New for 2013)

It’s Family Night at Halloween Haunt! Step into a world where all your favorite board games come to life in the deadliest of ways!

This Game Night might be your last!

So, family game night gone wrong. That's an interesting one to spin off of, but I can see how it would work. Sort of, then again I can't seem to get the idea of giant Sorry and Parcheesi pieces chasing after me. Actually, that does sound rather terrifying to a degree...

Delta Delta Die (New for 2013)

The sorority girls are having their annual Halloween party and you’re invited! They’re determined to throw the wildest party ever … or die trying!

Getting a whiff of Project X on this one, but should be interesting. I mean who doesn't love a good Greek party gone horribly wrong, right? This could be one of the better haunts in the park if it's done right.

Before I forget, here's a look at the newest scare-zone for this year as well. Though, to be honest, this one isn't marked with the whole "New for 2013" moniker on their site. So, with that in mind, don't quote me on this one being 100% new...

Backwoods Bayou (New for 2013?)

Lurking in the shadows of the bayou are swamp monsters to dangerous to explore, to twisted to explain, searching for new prey.

Mosquitoes aren’t the only creatures after your blood!

Always good to see the voodoo theme getting played up and seems that this is the year for that as many events are going with it. Definitely think it could work as a scare-zone as well. I mean it is a bayou and they're typically not indoors after all...

So, there ya have everything that's new for this year's Halloween Haunt but what about what's returning from last year? Well, we got ya covered there too. So, here's all the mazes, scare-zones and shows returning from last year and beyond!

Carnevil (Returning)

Join the circus like you wanted to when you were a kid … permanently! This is not your run-of-the-mill Big Top.

Only the most determined will make it out alive.

Club Blood (Returning)

This popular night club has never been so bloody good! Come in for a bite and stay for as long as you’d like.

In fact, you can stay forever!

(Seems they use this one over and over at the parks as well as a few others...)

Cornstalkers (Returning)

This frightful cornfield will scare the yell out of you! These guardians of rubble take their jobs very seriously. Intruders beware! You’ve been warned.

(What would a Cedar Fair haunt be without this one? Yet another park wide maze that's always a fan favorite.)

Holiday Horror (Returning)

The holidays are just around the corner – every corner! Get ready to celebrate all the holidays like never before in horrific-like fashion.

(I've always loved weird takes on the holidays, it's hard to go wrong with the whole idea when you really think about it. Santa is a creepy bastard!)

Madame Fatale's Cavern of Terror (Returning)

Madame Fatale has just passed her final psychological evaluation after a decade of incarceration. Join her for the Grand Re-Opening of her museum of oddities and wax.

(One of the few original haunts and probably one of Kings Island's best!)

Slaughter House (Returning)

Looking for a fresh cut of meat? The butcher shop is open and you never know who – or what – is on the chopping block.

It’s a real meat-lovers delight!

Tombstone Terror-Tory (Returning)

Covered bridges and foggy terrain disguise the pure evil that lurks in every direction aboard this midnight train. But don’t be alarmed. You’ll make it to your final destination!

(Loved the mixed elements this one has going for it, definitely one of the more unique haunt ideas out there!)

Urgent Scare (Returning)

Beware! A deadly virus has broken out and has been spreading fast from patient-to-patient at the local hospital.

If the virus doesn’t kill you, fear will!

Wolf Pack (Returning)

The moon is full and there’s something howling in the woods. And it’s hungry! Who’s afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? You will be!

(Housed in the old Son of Beast ride building, this one stays up year round and is part of their behind the scenes tour as well!)

So, there's all the mazes coming back for this year. Definitely a fairly solid line up, even if a lot of it has been around for a while by now. Yet, that's not all Kings Island has in store. In addition to the newest scare-zone listed above, they've got three more returning for this year as well!

Cemetery Drive (Returning)

Tombstones quake as the residents come out for a swinging wake. Beware of grim grinning ghosts wanting to socialize.

What they really want to do is terrorize.

Freak Street (Returning)

If you want to live a nice, quiet life please do yourself a favor and don’t come out at night.

The freaks … they’re always out at night.

Nightmare Alley (Returning)

Will you survive the darkness, or be one of the latest victims of the pure evil that lurks. Just keep telling yourself it’s only a nightmare.

Yeah, I don't have a lot to say on those to be honest. They're the same as previous years so if anyone's been to the event recently, you'll definitely recognize what's going on for sure.

Also returning along with the Ed Alonzo show are a few that many folks will remember from over the course of the past few years at Halloween Haunt. I'm not too broken up about this though, there's some good stuff here and Blood Drums really should stick around as it's just one of those cornerstone shows you just don't get rid of.

Blood Drums (Returning)

The pulsating power of this rapturous band of misfit drummers will mesmerize and energize you in this percussive blood bath of rhythm and music.

It’s a punk rock stomp!

Graveyard Shift (Returning)

The witching hour is upon you! Get ready for a howling good time with the Fearsome Foursome – Medusa, Scare, Johnny Be Dead and Dr. Funkenstein – in this haunting rock ‘n’ roll revue.

(They really should get some original artwork too, this pic has zero to do with the show at all!)

Hot Blooded (Returning)

Vampires, blood and rock ‘n’ roll explode on the stage in this seductive after-life revue. This clan is born to be wild and looking for action.

Break on through to the other side and get bitten!

And there it is, every show, maze and scare-zone for this year's Halloween Haunt at Kings Island. If you're still with me at this point, congrats, if not...I totally understand. There's a lot to get through with these at times.

Overall, I wish that the Cedar Fair parks would change things up a little. Sure, they're all a bit varied in design and each have their own unique haunts, but there is a lot of overlap that just shouldn't be. Not for parks the size of these. It would be nice to see each one be totally unique, not sure that'll happen but some of these themes have been around for a very long time now.
