[Cons] Countdown to Tekko 14 Begins!

Well, it's that time of year again and the whole convention coverage team here at Kitsuneverse is getting ready for Tekko 14 in just two weeks! All of us are looking forward to finally getting together for a convention and bringing you all the coverage that we can from every possible angle that we can think of. Myself, +Carrie H.C., +Alexandra F and +Madeline Actrice will all be in attendance interviewing guests, covering the musical performances, masquerade and tons of other events throughout the weekend.

So, with only two weeks left, let's take a look at what everyone that's going can expect, shall we? First up, let's take a look at the schedule for this year's event!

Definitely a few things in there that can't be missed, but it's also interesting to note that they'll be having a Lolita Fashion Show as well as a Dance Competition. Both of those are new this year, at least I don't remember them on the schedule last year...so if they're not, they're new to me.

Also, we all will be cosplaying, as we all do love doing it, so keep an eye out for a crazy red haired fox, Harley Quinn, Queen Chrysalis and the many more incarnations of us that will be prowling about the DLCC and the streets of Pittsburgh too!

Curious about what we thought of things last year? Check out the Tekko X-2 Mega Post for all our cosplay and music coverage as well as our review!

Gacharic Spin
I've already covered the musical guests for this year's event and I can say that I'm definitely looking forward to seeing both in action. It's been said in the past that Tekko is an anime convention with a music problem and this year is, of course, no exception to that!

That said, I'm really curious to see Gacharic Spin and how their energy translates to the Pittsburgh crowd, going to be interesting for sure.

Not being as familiar with Lolita Dark, that will be a totally new experience for everyone, myself included. Again, will be interesting to see how the crowd receives them. Last year it went crazy for Dazzle Vision and CANTOY, hope to see that carry over for this year.

Also, hopefully we'll be able to get a good bit of video from both performances and with having the GoPro, that shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Industry and Voice Actor guests are always the backbone of any convention and Tekko is no exception here either. However, a few of them may be a little more unconventional to the common convention goer. That said, we'll be interviewing as many as we can as well, because, it's just too much fun to pass up on and guests at Tekko just seem to be more laid back than other places, always a plus!

So, just who can you expect to see this year?

Industry Guests:

"Uncle Yo", from Otakon to Anime Expo, Karl “Uncle Yo” Custer teleports to anime, comic book and video game conventions performing his unique brand of geek-specific stand-up comedy. You can also hear him voice every dog and trainer in the Android game “Top Dog: Lucky’s Charm.” He is the self-published author of “The Anime Convention Survival Guide” as a single on Amazon as well as the roast of the 1996 Doctor Who movie starring the 8th Doctor on iTunes.

Every Monday his podcast, “We are the Geek” tackles current issues, reviews shows and features up-and-coming convention guests, or fan-lebrities as Yo puts it. His two latest albums, Ecto-Kitt-Lorean and Matching Hair Clips are ready for download at Amazon and iTunes for your enjoyment. His web work can be viewed with cameos on several Nostalgia Critic reviews, including starring in the 5th Anniversary short for Thatguywiththeglasses.com, DragonBored. Yo was also featured on SchnozMan and Hole Punch at Stayballsy.com as florist sociopath and super-villain, Jeff Regean.

We have a good bit of video during his time at Tekko X-2 last year, during the masquerade. You can check it out here on the KitsuneverseTV YouTube channel!

Charles Dunbar, Charles is an anthropologist. He studies a lot of things, be it fandom, anime culture, the supernatural or mysterious men in blue boxes. He received his MA in Sociocultural Anthropology in 2011, after utilizing ancient Mayan techniques to hypnotize his department into believing that he was, in fact, the reincarnation of Victor Turner. His thesis, entitled “Pilgrimage, Pageantry and Fan Communities,” was published soon after, and focused on anime convention participation, including stereotyping, spending habits, cosplay and con culture. Currently, he travels around lecturing on topics like mythology, sacred practice, anime culture, Hayao Miyazaki, Pokemon, Time Lord physiology, folklore and fandom. In his spare time, Charles hunts yokai and indulges in the occasional JRPG. You can keep track of his current ramblings on www.studyofanime.com

Greg Wicker, (or “Greggo” as he’s fondly known) has been producing and hosting game shows at anime conventions since 1999, when he premiered Anime Match Game at Project A-Kon in Dallas. Since then, Greggo has done anime-themed versions of several classic game shows, created a few games of his own, and even had an original project that very nearly turned into an actual television show on Anime Network. These days Greggo is concentrating on perfecting his craft and making game shows available for conventions everywhere, bringing his rapier wit and friendly personality with him wherever he goes. You can see some of Greggo’s past game show efforts on his YouTube page at http://www.youtube.com/gregdasgoor visit his website at http://www.facebook.com/greggosgameshows.

And there ya have it, wait, you're still here?! Holy crap, that's quite impressive. Thanks for sticking around this long...either way it's looking to be another great Tekko this year. Overall we're looking forward to seeing what direction the convention takes this year as long time show runner and president of the Pittsburgh Japanese Culture Society, Jim Gogal, is no longer at the helm. I have no doubt things will run smoothly and it won't be that different, but one never knows, right?
