[Anime] Live Action Ghost in the Shell Movie Happening? Scarlett Johansson Says, Yes.

Well, for those that thought this project was dead and likely not to go anywhere, it would seem that things are full speed ahead on this one. At least, that is according to Scarlett Johansson. In a recent interview talking about Avengers: Age of Ultron, the actress was asked about the in development project.

In January, Walt Disney Pictures announced that the film, to be directed by Rupert Sanders, would coming out in the U.S. on April 14, 2017. Additionally Avi Arad and Steven Paul are on board as producers and William Wheeler on script writing duties for the project.

For those not familiar with the history, this could very well be falling into the "Americanized" category of things as the story would be moved from Japan to the US in the film.

There's nothing concrete about that, but that's the general idea and vibe that's been given off from things so far. It really is hard to argue that direction with Johansson being cast as the lead role of Major Motoko as well.

Of course, she could be a totally new character and this very could go the way of Edge of Tomorrow/All You Need is Kill too. Will have to wait and see just what comes about all of this as things get closer to production.

So, just what did Johansson have to say about it? As per Collider;
“It’s happening. It will be shooting the beginning of next year, so I think we start production January or February and it’s me and Rupert [Sanders]; and that’s all I know.”
It's not much, but definitely sounds like things are moving forward and that time frame does seem to fit in between other projects that those said to be involved with the film have on their plates. With filming starting in early 2016, hitting the 2017 date seems plausible at the very least. Guess it would depend on how much post effects has to be done.

Personally, I'm not entirely sold on this one. We've seen a lot of anime adapted by Hollywood that just doesn't pan out. Sometimes it does in a loose sense, but overall it seems to leave fans wanting, and severely at that. Will this be another of those or can they actually bring about a good/great film? Only time will tell.

Stay tuned for more on this one as I'm sure there will plenty of news and speculation alike to come from the production, whether it happens or not. As always, keep it here or follow along with us on Twitter, Google+, Tumblr and even Facebook for all the latest!
