[Haunts] Full Maze Line Up for Universal Singapore's Halloween Horror Nights 5 Revealed

With only 38 days until all hell breaks loose for Halloween Horror Nights 5 at Universal Studios Singapore, we've gotten our final maze announcement. Over the past couple of weeks, they've been slowly announcing the line up and now we have the full slate of things to come for this year's event.

Over the past five years, I've admired the creativity and madness of HHN at Universal Singapore. It's made me wish that the US parks would go back to their roots a bit more and bring us something truly insane and terrifying from their own minds and not that of others. I still love what they do in Hollywood and Orlando, but this is the true spirit of things in my book.

For those curious, the mazes and scare zones at Universal Studios Singapore's Halloween Horror Nights are themed around urban legends and other mythological horrors from all over Southeast Asia. Some of these are really messed up, and gotta love them for putting the effort into bringing some of these to life.

So, with that said, let's get down to this year's maze line up for Halloween Horror Nights 5 at Universal Studios Singapore!

First stop, Hell House.
The master paper effigy maker invites you to his abode. Seekers of paper effigies for the hungry ghost festival are welcome to explore. Make yourself at home. But be warned: the Blood Moon has awakened the Paper Servants of the Effigy House and you will soon be feeling the heat, because everything here is made to be burnt!
Well, that doesn't sound good at all, now does it? Paper effigies are commonly burned in the Taoist religion to help those who have passed on. Somehow I think things have gone a little wrong here with this particular shop and the ghosts have come back.

Definitely makes a bit of sense considering that the lone scare zone that we know of is called Hungry Ghosts and is located just outside of Hell House. These two themes tie really well together, here's the official run down of things on that one.

Given it's the only one we know of, I'm kinda sneaking in the description of it now, why not, right?

"The Blood Moon has wreaked havoc on the Lunar Calendar! In this forsaken village it is eternally the Seventh Month, and villagers perform rituals of the Hungry Ghost Festival every night. Are they apparitions, or have you have “crossed over” without realising it?"

Yeah, something definitely is up with these two and going to be curious of the havoc that's caused from things.

Moving along we get to SG Blk 50.

"Oh, the fun memories at Block 50. This perennial hangout place of the gang never fails at epic moments. And you’re back for a pizza get-together where everyone is looking forward to another chapter of infectious thrill. The HHN-5 virus is turning residents of a HDB block into rampaging, flesh-eating zombies! Emergency Services has been brought in to contain the situation, but it may all be in vain! Can you find your way out through the carnage, as heartland turns into hell?"
Yeah, that's a pizza party I don't want to go, at all (and I've been to some pretty odd ones). No offense, but it sounds like there could be something wrong with something. The cheese, maybe the meat for the toppings? I'm not sure but it's definitely not a good thing that's happened here at all.

Now onto the third announced maze for this year and it looks like we're taking a bit of a train ride aboard The MRT.

"An underground train station built at a Malay burial site is torn asunder as a curse is fulfilled by the rise of the Blood Moon. Toyols, hantu rayas and pontianaks now stalk for victims, as the tracks lead you back in time, to the author of the curse and his murderous henchmen. As the Blood Moon rises, ancient evil stirs and awakens. Think you're lucky enough to catch the last train of the night? Think again."
I've ridden public transit, many times, but I don't ever remember having these kinds of problems with it before. Sounds like things have gone wrong on the evening commute and the presence of some of those beasties? Down right nasty. Toyols can be be used for all kinds of things, murdering, thievery and more.  Toss in the Hantu Rayas acting on behalf of their masters and we've got a nice double threat but that leaves out the Pontianaks, who are likely just out for some vampiric ghost fun. All that and the time travel bit? Yeah....bad news all around there.

So far the line up has been, interesting. Now it's time for the final stop...time to go below ground and meet The Tunnel People.

"Dwelling in the darkness of subterranean passageways, the Tunnel People have been biding their time for the rise of the Blood Moon. As you feel your way into their forbidding domain, what horrors await, and will you be able to see them? They have lived for centuries below us, guarding their secrets while waiting for the Blood Moon to rise. What revelations will their subterranean dwellings spring?"
Sure sounds like a blackout kind of house to me, and that's exactly what this one is. The first ever pitch black experience at HHN Singapore. Usually I'm not a huge fan of these as a lot can go wrong and things have to be paced properly for them to work. That said, I've never seen an event this size go for one either, so they have to have to something up their sleeves to make it interesting.

And there ya have it, the entire maze line up (plus one scare zone) for Halloween Horror Nights 5 at Universal Studios Singapore. As said, there's only one known scare zone so far, so going to have to wait a little a little bit longer before we have a 100% full list of things. When the time comes, I'll post everything up together somewhere. Not sure if it'll be a full on Haunt Guide or not. Either way, we'll have ya covered.

Stay tuned for more news out of HHN 5 and all the other haunted attraction news as it reaches us, Haunt Season is nearly upon us!
