[Furry]/Anthrocon Adds a 7th Hotel

Well, it seems that anticipation for this year's Anthrocon, July 4-7, in Pittsburgh is shaping up to possibly top their record breaking attendance from last year. If you're curious, they managed to get just under 5200 attendees (5179 to be exact) and with the addition of a 7th hotel this year? It looks like they're definitely on track to top that.

According to Anthrocon's website, they've added some more one bedroom suites in the Doubletree as well as a whole new room block at the Wyndam Grand. Sure it's a bit of a further walk, but for $129 a night (+tax), it's not a bad deal. (Before you wonder too much, we're staying at the William Penn Omni during our time there.) If you're curious about how to book a room for this year's Anthrocon, look no further.

Though, this does make me wonder, why the sudden growth? Not really sure to be quite honest. It's either that there are more and more furries making the trek out to conventions (which would be great), Anthrocon's reputation (already rock solid) making more people go or maybe, just maybe, the announcement of Mercedes Lackey and Larry Dixon has brought out a higher turn out than anticipated.

In all honesty, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the latter fueling this. Those two are extremely rare finds on the convention circuit and have legions of fans across the world (as we've covered before). If that's the case, I wonder how many people will be attending Anthrocon this year as their first furry convention or without a clue of what the furry fandom is about. It's certainly possible given their audience.

Now, you could say that's a bad thing but it could also be a great moment to introduce many to the fandom in a positive way as well. Of course, this assumption could be dead wrong and Anthrocon is just becoming that popular or more furries are willing to make the trek out due to the guests as well. Either way, I think it's a good thing and could be quite positive regardless of the reasoning.
