[Haunts] A New Spin on Zombie Laser Tag Coming to Pittsburgh's Hundred Acres Manor for 2015

Seems the folks behind Hundred Acres Manor are really pushing things this year. Not only are they debuting the Enigma Project escape room experience this year, but they have something else coming as well. They definitely kept this one under the radar too. So, just what it is? Let me put it this way...

Zombie. Laser. Tag.

Yep, you read that right. Who doesn't love zombies, or laser tag? Mixing the two is just full of awesome. If you don't, you're a horrible person. However, this one isn't so cut and dry as that. What fun would that be, right?

The new attraction is being housed in a 100% newly constructed, custom built building that will make the experience as authentic as possible. From what I understand, it's taking over the space where zombie paintball used to be and a bit more around it. Sad to see that go soon, as it was an interesting idea and even with its issues, seemed like it could've grown to be something a bit more than it was. That said, sometimes progress needs to come faster for some things than others. Also, paintballs hurt.

Anyway, back to the matter at hand. Just what is involved with what Hundred Acres Manor is calling "Tactical Zombie Laser Tag"? For starters, this isn't exactly like a lot of other similar experiences out there. From what I understand in talking with the powers that be, there's a lot of little things that add up to the bigger picture. Devil's in the details and all that, so let's get to it.

Things start out fairly normal as far as laser tag goes, your team is pitted up against another in a cityscape environment in a battle to take control. So far that seems straight forward there, but it's after that is when things will get a little more interesting. Once control of the city is achieved, things get a bit more fun. Zombies will begin to infiltrate the area (I'm imaging some crazy 'release the hounds' kind of moment here), and before you know it you'll not only be going up against the other team, but the zombies as well. That's a recipe for chaos which sounds insanely delicious.

That already sounds quite a bit more involved than most other similar experiences out there, but there's more, this is Hundred Acres Manor after all. Remember that whole devil's in the details bit? Well, as if fighting the zombies off wasn't enough, they will effect your point total as they get closer and closer to you. Not enough for ya? Good. Additionally, if you take too much of a hit from the zombies, you're now one of the infected yourself and that means you get to wreak havoc upon the rest of the survivors. Which makes sense, as zombies would have that effect, what with all that biting and infecting business going on.

Honestly, I've never heard of something like this and am very curious as to how the whole system will work in practice once things are live. It's very ambitious sounding but if this works as planned, it's going to be one helluva adrenaline roller coaster ride over the course of a match. How successful you are seems to depend on a lot of tactical decisions, team communication, and probably some good old fashioned dumb luck. Again, that all adds up to some sweet, delicious chaos.

To say that I'm looking forward to trying this out would be an understatement. I love the concept and really think that what the Hundred Acres Manor crew is doing will be provide yet another truly original spin things. Only time will tell if it works as well as they, and myself, hope it does. So, stay tuned as you can bet we'll be letting you know about our experience come haunt season!
